Virtual Reality (VR)

Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that creates immersive three dimensional worlds that appears very realistic. Virtual reality creates a virtual environment whose surrounding can be changed according to our desire but to do so we use a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) that gives us the stereoscopic view of the virtual world. The view of the virtual world is very clear and sharp.

To obtain more sensory feedback we must be inside a virtual lab. The virtual lab have got devices called bot-kickers , that are mounted underneath the floor to make the floor shake, more than 20 speakers provide a clear virtual audio input. The sound and the shake of the floor react exactly according to the view. Nearly 20 desktop pc are used in the lab for user tracking and rendering the environment. An infrared optical system monitors subject with exact precision and a very sensitive apparatus detects almost exact movements of the subjects, and then reflects the same movement in the HMD.

VR now a day is used in the field of healthcare to overcome diseases such as “Phobias”. For example: VR is being used to overcome the fear of heights. The automobile industries have been using VR for virtual test-drives. It is also used in air force training. Virtual goggles like “OCUICUS RIFT” have also been developed to play virtual games in the present time. On the basis of VR, an immersive technology called CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) has been created, which is regarded as the one most popular VR technology.

Finally, to sum up, VR is a technology that is slowly growing and spreading in almost every field.
