An
artificial neural network is a mathematical model inspired by biological neural
networks. A neural network consists of an interconnected group of artificial
neurons and it processes information using a connectionist approach to
computation.The concept
of artificial neural network (ANN) came from biological system: central nervous
system. So, neural network is directive head of artificial intelligence of
machines.
The first neural network was invented in 1958 by psychologist Frank Rosenblatt.

- It is an abstraction of biological neurons.
- They are the constitutive units in a neural network.
- Each neuron takes many input signals, then based onInternal weighting system, produces a single output signal that is typically sent as input is other neuron.
The important area of
application of neural network is in the field of robotics. Usually, these
networks are designed to direct a manipulator, which is the most important form
of the industrial robot, to gasp objects, based on sensor data. Another application
includes the steering and path-planning of autonomous robot vehicles. In
robotics, the major task involves making movements dependent on sensor data.
